Three events celebrate surfboard design of the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 October, 2016 - With the completion of the weekend’s HB ‘80’s contest hosted by Bud Llamas and won by Billy Hopkins, Justin Hugron was declared the 2016 Champion of the Triple Crown of Retro.
The brainchild of Ricky Blake and Benny Bigler, the Triple Crown of Retro is a three event series held over the summer comprising the Surfside Seventies, the Jammin’ at the Jetty/Sixties and this past weekend’s the HB ‘80’s.
These three events celebrate the decades of the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties where competitors must ride boards made during each of the decades.
Hugron got off to great start by winning the Surfside Seventies but hot on his heels to the very end was the defending Triple Crown Champion Jeff Deffenbaugh, who missed repeating needing only one higher placing on the final day when he finished fourth but needed to be third or better.
Results of each of the three events:
Surfside Seventies Champion Justin Hugron
Jammin’ at the Jetty/Sixties Champion Shane Jones
HB ‘80’s Champion Billy Hopkins
