Surfers Rescue 24/7 program developed by Surfing Victoria will train surfers

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 December, 2017 - The highly successful Surfers Rescue 24/7 program was launched this morning by Surfing Victoria as part of the Victorian Governments Play it Safe by the Water initiative.

Initially developed by Surfing NSW in response to research that found surfers complete more than 50% of rescues in the ocean, the program has been expanded to Western Australia and now Victoria.

The free program teaches surfers basic board rescues and CPR skills that will help keep Victorian beaches safe. Industry representatives attended and participated in the opening session from Dragon Eyewear, Modom Surf and Need Essentials.

Surfing Victoria CEO, Adam Robertson, is looking forward to rolling this vital program out to surfers across the state.

“Its fantastic that we are able to run this important program in Victoria, where we have many unpatrolled beaches, particularly during cooler months. Surfers are at the beach 365 days a year regardless of the weather. Giving them the skills to perform CPR and board rescues may one day help save the life of another surfer or even a swimmer.”

Programs will initially be offered to affiliated boardriders clubs and surf industry partners before being offered to the public in 2018.
